Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin Spice is a sulcata tortoise with a warm, golden-brown shell and a personality as comforting as a crisp autumn morning. Big, bold and full of charm, they are the perfect mix of slow and steady with just a hint of sass.

Species: Sulcata tortoise, also called African spurred tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata)

Sex: to be confirmed

Approx. age: to be confirmed

Expected adult size: 24-30 in shell and 70-150 lb. This is the third largest tortoise species in the world.

Expected lifespan: 50-80 years or more. A sulcata adopted today will very likely outlive you, so please have a plan in your will for who takes over.

Enclosure needed: a secure outdoor pen, at minimum 10 × 10 ft for an adult and larger is better, with a heated shelter for winter and a dig-proof perimeter. Sulcatas are powerful burrowers and will go under a fence that is not buried. An adult sulcata is not an indoor animal.

Experience level: the day-to-day care is straightforward - the commitment is not. Please read the size and lifespan figures above carefully before applying.

Adoption fee: quoted at application

Adoption fees are set per animal based on enclosure requirements and any medical needs. We will quote yours during screening.
